Contractor: Northern Heritage Roofing

Project Overview:
Northern Heritage Roofing recently completed the re-roofing of the rear elevations on two adjoining bungalow properties. In the rural village, we have fast became the roofers Otterburn residents turn to when they need a reliable contractor. . The front roof sections had been modernised several years ago, and our task was to complete the rear portions to match both in quality and aesthetic—while addressing unique structural challenges involving existing conservatories.

Scope of Work:
We installed Brown Mendip double pan concrete tiles to the rear slopes of both properties. To ensure watertightness where the new roofs met existing conservatories, we fabricated and installed two custom box gutters—a vital detail that required precision workmanship to prevent future water ingress.

Key Elements:

  • Stripped back old rear roof coverings
  • Installed breathable membrane and treated battens
  • Laid Brown Mendip concrete tiles to match front elevations
  • Designed and installed two bespoke box gutters at conservatory joins
  • Tidy finishing with dry verge systems and eaves protection

Challenges & Solutions:
The major challenge lay in ensuring the connection between the new tiled roofs and the conservatories was watertight, without interfering with the existing structures. Our solution involved crafting tailored box gutters and installing them with careful gradient and sealing detail to channel water safely away, preserving both the new roof and the conservatory framework.

Outcome:
Both bungalows now benefit from cohesive, weatherproof rear rooflines that match the previously updated fronts. The concrete Mendip tiles offer a strong, low-maintenance finish that complements the homes' style and boosts their longevity.

Customer Review:
"Fantastic job by Northern Heritage Roofing. The new roofs look great and the work around the conservatories was spot on. Very tidy, very professional—highly recommend them to anyone needing roofing work." – Homeowner, Otterburn
