Northern Heritage Roofing recently completed a double garage flat roof replacement in Washington, Tyne and Wear, removing a failing GRP fibreglass roofing system and upgrading it to a new, durable EPDM rubber roof.
The existing GRP roof had begun to deteriorate, leaving the garage vulnerable to water ingress and further damage. With three existing mushroom-style skylight windows incorporated into the roof, careful planning was required to ensure these could be safely removed, preserved and reinstated as part of the new installation.
Rather than replacing perfectly serviceable skylights, our team carefully removed all three units before installing the new rubber roofing system, allowing the homeowner to retain the existing natural light without the unnecessary expense of new windows.

A Long-Term Roofing Solution
The completed installation has transformed the double garage roof, replacing the deteriorating GRP covering with a flexible, weather-resistant EPDM system designed for long-term performance.
Unlike rigid fibreglass systems, EPDM offers excellent flexibility, allowing it to accommodate natural building movement and temperature fluctuations without the same susceptibility to cracking.
By retaining and reinstating the existing skylights, we were also able to deliver a cost-effective roof replacement without compromising the garage's natural lighting.
